I consider myself a wine explorer. Not just wine itself, but anything and anywhere that sells wine. Cellars. Wineries. Wine co-ops. Even supermarkets. Particularly here in the Languedoc. There always seems to be a little surprise lurking on a shelf somewhere. Like the day I found a HUGE wall of wine in the Casino supermarket in Olonzac. Absolutely awesome. Wines from everywhere. Bordeaux, Burgundy, Cote de Rhone, you name it, they stocked it. So you’ll be surprised, as I was, to see, right on the very bottom shelf... Yellow Tail!! But that’s another story all together.

 

But this particular story begins with a quick stop at the Casino market in Ouveillan. Miss K went for the necessities, I went for the essentials. Wine. They didn’t stock a huge range but the selection was slightly different to other Casinos. Browse, browse, browse. What's this I thought to myself? About half way up a bottle of Malbec, yummy, from Cahours, double yummy, the price, 10.50€, tripple yummy. 

 

Then suddenly, my brain went.... WTF!!! Noooooo. Really?

 

Yup, really. After perusing the label I noticed a graphic of a rather chubby cherub giving the bird, yes, the bird. Beautifully illustrated I must admit. And then, I looked a little closer. I paused. I noticed Miss K in the next aisle. Pssst! Pssst! I went, hoping not to arouse attention. To which she replied loudly... DO NOT PSSST ME PLEASE! I followed up with a frantic ‘come hither’ hand gesture. WHAT? I pointed to the label. She giggled. I pointed a little lower, WTF!!! Yes, the name... Little F@#K, but spelled out. I gave her the 'should we buy it' look to which she replied, you guessed it... What the f@#k why not.

OMG, turns out the wine was really quite good, considering we'd just had a 200+€ Malbec the day before at Les Grands Buffets in Narbonne (another story). Varietal to the taste, rich, medium to heavy body. I'd definitely buy it again, as long as it comes in a brown paper bag.
